Loneliness: When You Feel Alone Even Around People
Loneliness is not always about being physically alone. Sometimes, a person can be surrounded by family, friends, colleagues or people online and still feel unseen, misunderstood or emotionally disconnected.
Everyone feels lonely at times. But when loneliness continues, it can affect emotional well-being and may be associated with increased risk of depression and anxiety.
Some signs may include: • Feeling disconnected from others • Losing interest in social interaction • Feeling that nobody understands you • Spending more time withdrawing from people • Feeling empty or emotionally distant despite being around others
Small steps toward connection can matter: talking honestly with someone you trust, maintaining meaningful relationships, joining supportive activities, and seeking professional help when loneliness is affecting daily life.
You don't always need more people around you. Sometimes, you need more meaningful connection.
At Carl Rogers Mental Health Counselling & Guidance Centre, we provide a respectful and non-judgmental space to talk about emotional difficulties, relationships and personal concerns.
